| Bruce Barnbaum. Dune Ridges at Sunrise, Death Valley. 1976 |
The value in the photography by Bruce Barnbaum, found on page 116 in our text, is what creates the legato rhythm. Although the contrast between values is mostly dramatic, in some areas it is less and helps create a relaxed, calm, and rolling feeling.
Value is just the term used for light and dark. "An area's value is its relative lightness or darkness in a given context" (Design Basics 240).
