Ok so I thought I should do a little better and post again!
The picture above is an example of emphasis on placement. The person is the focal point, and the rocks are the perspective lines directing the viewers' eyes to the figure. This adds more interest and the viewer's attention. It becomes a more interesting and personal portrait.

1977 Fiat 124 Spider headlight. Emphasis- one element. With emphasis on one element, there is a overall dominant visual focal point. In this picture it is the headlight. It doesn't seem out of place because it goes along with the theme of the picture....it remains related to and part of the overall design.
A variation on emphasis by contrast is the technique of isolation. The dead tree in winter in contrast with the others and it's placement is a good example of isolation. It grabs our attention.

In a way this photo shows emphasis by isolation because there is only one viola facing the viewer. Even though the focal point is pretty much in the middle the yellow flower leads your eye into the photo and the others lead you out. It could also be said that emphasis is achieved through contrast, as all the rest of the flowers are facing to the right. The same goes for the photo below.
This photo shows emphasis on contrast. All the other trees on the hill are not evergreens. This makes the few evergreens covered in snow stand out with their dark firs.
This photo is an example of absence of focal point. Not one element has more focus over the the other...., but all working together to create one interesting piece. Emphasizing the whole over the parts. One main or multiple focal points are not necessary for a successful design. The focal can b the piece as a whole. The shapes and colors all contribute to the overall piece.
